After a long break with the maintenance of the ZipTorrent.com website, we are finally back with many changes and improvements. First, I am sure most of you have probably noticed the redesign to the site.
we have also released several minor released to ZipTorrent, such as 18.104.22.168, 22.214.171.124, 126.96.36.199 and today we released 188.8.131.52. Since we did not really have the time to update the news and the changelog, I will now list the various changes that were introduced up to this latest release.
We have added a facility within ZipTorrent that allows Search Engines and RSS feed providers to add themselves to your ZipTorrent, by making available a simple file on their website. Once you click that file, ZipTorrent will automatically open it and add their feed or their search engine. This is similar to the way search engines are added in the popular FireFox web browser. We have released a new updater, which no longer opens a DOS window to perform the actual update, and is more advanced (allows removal of files that are obsolete, from your ZipTorrent installation) Catch Rules were global in previous releases. In this new release, you can set Catch Rules per RSS feed, which allows for more accurate settings, and may also eliminate duplicates (since some feeds take from other feeds). We have written an adaptor for Google Torrent Search, you will notice that ZipTorrent now lets you search for torrents in Google. The top 10 results are returned, and they are from the last 3 month according to Google. We have fixed a serious bug in the installer which caused problems under certain specific circumstances. Now more people can install ZipTorrent on their systems. Many bugs were fixed that affected the stability of the client, as well as a corruption in downloaded torrents. Added useful bubble notifications for various events such as finished downloads, private messages in the chat, and more. We introduced this and it had a bug, and then introduced a new version which fixed the bug (bubbles did not disappear). You can now view the files inside the torrent, in the Torrent Details tab. Per user requests, we have added more icons in the Transfers Toolbar to make certain functions easily accessible. I have probably missed a few more features, so I will let you play with the software and discover them slowly :-)
Some people also asked me if the built-in browser is Internet Explorer - the answer is: No. We have never used Internet Explorer inside ZipTorrent, because of security concerns. On the other hand, we wanted to embed Gecko (the engine used inside Mozilla/Firefox), but it proved a bit complicated and we opted to embed a simpler browser until we get more time.
New in this release are torrent filters (catch rules) per RSS feed, an option to specify wildcard/regular expression in catch rules, and some bug fixes. For a full list of changes, check out the changelog for v184.108.40.206
We are proud to announce the release of ZipTorrent version 220.127.116.11. Although it doesn't contain any visible changes, this is a very important release, as it incorporates a new update mechanism which is more reliable than the old one and allows more sophisticated updates to take place.
